UPDATED MARCH 13TH
Just over two weeks ago, we joined forces with Flocknote and CatholicStudentMinistry.com to launch FantasyConclave.com.
The idea was simple: create a site where people could get engaged with what was going on during this historical time in our Church, educate them on the conclave process, and enable them to share the content with others. The “fantasy league format” (and a few hundred dollars worth of prizes) has proven to be successful!
Over 5,600 people joined the league: guessing who they think will be elected pope and receiving daily pope-fact emails!
Without further ado, here’s the stats at the end of Fantasy Conclave today, March 13th:

I find it interesting how there is a pretty wide distribution of choices yet most think the conclave length will be four days or less. Some participants probably chose cardinals who are not considered frontrunners since doing so might reduce the number of other participants who chose the same cardinal.
I voted for Dolan out of pure sentiment
I went to WYD in Madrid, and Dolan spoke at our Catechisis session at the Love and Life centre. He was amazing, not just what he said but his obvious connection with the young people and his heart for the Church shone out to me as one of the most memorable experiences of WYD.
So true! He has a very visible love for the youth! And a contagious joy!
SCHONBORN O.P. ORDER OF PREACHERS !!!!
OR O’MALLEY FRANCUSCAN
WE NEED A GOOD FRIAE AS HOLY FATHER !!!!!
I agree the Cardinal Archbishop of Vienna would make a wonderful choice and inspire many in Christendom. He is charismatic and even though I picked his name as Pope Dominic I as a reformer of the Church and going back to the Cardinal’s personal charism…Pope John Paul III would be a nice touch too
If chosen, he would be a wonderfully gifted leader of the Church in Rome and around the world. I pray this day that the serious problems facing the Vatican which are not new will be seriously addressed by the next pope who I would hope would be Cardinal Christoph. Time will tell. He made an enemy of Sodano and that is no small internal problem poltiically since these guys like to talk more than middle school classmates
I pray they can overcome their human condition and let the Holy Spirit move them to a positive reform of the Curia, the Vatican Bank, the worldwide clergy sex abuse crisis and even the 1929 compact with a Fascist dictator. Time will tell. Firmum est cor meum.
Although I took part in this Fantasy Conclave and voted for the Cardinal Of Montreal, I was surprised to see a couple of important names not even mention although they could possible “dark horse” candidates. One is Malcolm Ranjith, who is from Sri Lanka, and is a close friend of the Pope Emeritus. The other is from Hungary Peter Erdo, who is one of the youngest (60) and active in the Curia. Why were not these two mostly Peter Erdo not even being considered when even secular bookies are mentioning them?
Cardinal Erdo was included in the names you could choose from when you joined the league. And you were able to write in Ranjith if you selected “OTHER” (only voting-eligible cardinals were included on our select list in order to keep that list a manageable size).
But the reason Cardinal Erdo does not appear in the chart above is that he has not received enough votes yet. Rather than listing every person who has received a vote, we cut it off at cardinals who had received at least 1.5% of the votes. Cardinal Erdo just missed that cut (receiving 1.4% of the vote).
Formatting doesn’t work for iPhones
Either that, or there’s something wrong with my iPhone itself haha!
Whoops! Looks like you’re right. We’re currently using infogr.am to display the stats, but I’ll see if I can find a work-around for mobile devices.
I voted for John Onaiyekan, but I would prefer Luis Tagle. However, I seriously doubt they’ll elect someone who’s only 55 years-old.
I agree the Archbishop of Manila is a gifted leader and in 15 years with leading his nation spiritually, he would be a wonderful choice…of course unless Jesus comes
You never know…stranger things have happened!
It doesn’t work for my Android Smartphone. I voted for H.E. Jorge Cardinal Bergoglio.
He would be the first of his order. He is very humble.
Drew – I’m working on a smartphone workaround. Sorry about that!
How come my choice isn’t listed in the stats: Joseph Ratzinger, with the chosen name of Benedict Redux?
We only listed men who have received at least 1.5% of the vote.
Did anyone choose Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergolio? Also, does anyone know why he chose Pope Francis I?
Reading the previous comments, my first question is answered. Congrats Drew!
